School
Ministry
The Armagh Diocesan Youth Council recognise
that a majority of young people in the diocese are attending
our catholic schools therefore know the importance of developing
initiatives in schools that will allow them to grow in faith.
We have placed particular emphasis on the development of adequate
retreat teams to meet the needs of young people, teachers
and schools within the archdiocese. The Youth Council is responsible
for the development of initiatives in the northern and southern
post-primary schools within the archdiocese.
By
the end of the period of the strategic plan the ADYC hope
to provide schools with a team of people who are trained
and experienced in conducting retreats. This team will visit
schools on invitation. The Council will also support faith
development initiatives within post-primary schools.
ADYC
are in the early stages of these plans but we still hope
to achieve them by December 2006. Research has already been
carried out regarding the use of retreat programmes within
the schools. We hope to use this information as a basis
for developing a retreat package that meets the needs of
all post-primary schools in the archdiocese.
Throughout
our school ministry activities we work closely alongside
the Diocesan Adviser for Post Primary Education. The school
ministry co-ordinating team needs developed so if you are
involved in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese and would
be interested in working as part of a team to develop resources
and opportunities for schools to effectively address the
moral and faith development of young people educated in
the archdiocese then please contact Kate (Youth Director)
